Gearing Up for the 2018 Festival


Behind the scenes, many people have been working on the plans for the 2018 Mormon Arts Center Festival. It is shaping up to be an amazing three days. The Festival will be held at the historic Italian Academy on the campus of Columbia University in New York City. We will be taking over the five-story building with exhibitions, concerts, presentations, and discussions on multiple floors simultaneously.

Here is a sampling of events, with more specifics to come soon:

  • Opening night party, keynote speaker, and festival preview
  • Mormon Cinema – presentation and book signing by Randy Astle
  • Art exhibition – Hildebrando de Melo from Angola – Glen Nelson, curator
  • The Dominican Jazz Project – concert/presentation by Stephen Anderson and friends
  • Mormon Animators
  • Presentations on these topics: The LDS Memoir, Panel on Church Art, Art as Spiritual Inquiry
  • Short presentations by artists, designers, performers and others
  • Premiere: They All Saw a Cat – composition by Andrew Maxfield
  • Video Art by Mormon Arts – curated by Laura Allred Hurtado
  • Children’s creativity workshop – Nathan Thatcher
  • Video Art by Mormon Artists – Laura Allred Hurtado, curator
  • On Friday night, we will present a concert at Carnegie Hall, "A Century of Mormon Music” a survey of piano works performed by Scott Holden
  • And the Festival will end with a special Sing-in
